Bashkortostan

Bashkortostan is the multinational republic within the Russian Federation. The territory of the Republic is 143,6 thousand km.
This region with the population of over 4 million people is located in the east of the European part of Russia. The capital of the Republic is Ufa, a city with the population of over 1 million people.

The republic is headed by the President, Murtaza G. Rakhimov, who was elected the first president of the Republic of Bashkortostan in 1993, his term of office is still in effect. The supreme representative and legislative body of the Republic of Bashkortostan is the State Assembly – the Kurultay.

The supreme executive body is the Government of the Republic of Bashkortostan.

Bashkortostan is rightfully called the pearl of Russia not only for its spectacular nature and the mineral resources wealth comprising the whole Mendeleev’s table. The republic has a powerful economic and spiritual potential and, what is the main thing, it has its wonderful and hard-working people, a beautiful bunch of various nationalities and original cultures. The people who take immense pride in preservation of peace, interethnic concord and friendship.

The Republic of Bashkortostan is located in a forest-steppe zone. The Ural Mountains are in the eastern part of the Republic. The landscape of the region is exceptionally beautiful with numerous rivers and lakes, hills and fields, steppes and forests. More than 600 rivers and 800 lakes add real beauty to the nature scene of the Republic.

Clean air of mountainous and steppe regions, a great number of health-giving mineral water springs, therapeutic muds made it possible to establish a network of high quality resorts and sanatoriums: “Yangan-Tau”, “Krasnousolsk”, “Zelyonaya Roscha”, “Yumatovo”, providing their guests with all facilities for good rest and health improvement.

The city of Ufa, capital of the Republic, is a big industrial, scientific and cultural centre. The capital city has a number of big culture centers and theatres, exhibition halls and museums, sports complexes: universal sports arena «Ufa-Arena» with artificial ice and seating capacity for 8200 people, international complex-hippodrome «Akbuzat», modern stadium «Dinamo» and many other sports facilities.

It is not for the first time that important international sports competitions are carried out in Ufa. The 1996 Hockey Junior European Championship took place in Ufa, as well as the 1997 International Russia–Japan Volleyball Games and the 2006 Summer Biathlon World Championships. The Ice Speedway European Ice Championship semi-finals and finals were held in 2003-2005. In 2007 the city of Ufa hosted a number of events: Ice Speedway World Championships, International Draughts World and Europe Championships, the European Volleyball Confederation Cup between the super league team “Neftyanik Bashkortostana” and teams from Croatia and Turkey, VI Belt Wrestling World Championships and some other international sports tournaments.
